Over 250,000 residents lost their community hospital and emergency services last year. What is their solution now?
Richmond, CA – Actor and community advocate Danny Glover will join prominent Bay Area physicians Desmond Carson, MD, and Ramona Tascoe, MD, in a public discussion about how West Contra Costa residents can access needed health care resources now that community hospital and emergency services have been curtailed with the closure of Doctors Medical Center.
The event is sponsored by LifeLong Medical Care.
West Contra Costa County community and religious leaders, residents – some uninsured – and health care advocates can learn more about their health care options at the Navigating Health Care event, sponsored by LifeLong Medical Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving 52,000 community members each year.
The event will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 5:00 pm at The East Bay Center for Performing Arts, 339 – 11th Street, near downtown Richmond.
This event is set to engage participants in a dialogue on matters of health and community investment, as well as inform attendees on their available health care services and enrollment options.
The event will feature a moderated panel discussion with actor/producer/community advocate and activist, Danny Glover; LifeLong Medical Care Physician Dr. Carson, who is based in Richmond; and global health advocate Dr. Tascoe.
Affordable and accessible health care are part of the national discourse; locally, it has been daunting for some 250,000 residents in West Contra County, as evidenced by the closure of Doctors Medical Center (DMC) last April.
DMC’s closure has placed a tremendous burden on already overused emergency rooms. Dr. Carson, formerly with DMC, is a practicing physician specializing in emergency room treatment and is committed to alleviating health care disparities in West Contra Costa County. Dr. Carson is providing urgent care services at LifeLong’s San Pablo Immediate Care Center – located across the street from DMC – at 2023 Vale Road, San Pablo, CA.
